College of Fisheries

Looking to the needs of the state, availability of water resources, high rain fall and good temperature regime has stimulated state government to open a Fishey College. Hence, the College of Fisheries was inaugurated at Kawardha in Chhattisgarh on July 16, 2010 by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Dr. Raman Singh. The college is presently running in a hired building. A forty acre land has been acquired and a full-fledged campus is being established. The mandate of the college is to :

  1. To impart education of fisheries and allied sciences
  2. Human resources development for fisheries sector
  3. To prepare self-employed personnel of fish farming
  4. To conduct need-based research in fishery sector
  5. To disseminate improved fishery practices at the door step of the stakeholders

Admissions in the college are done through state PMT examination (Pre Medical Test) conducted by Govt. of Chhattisgarh every year. There are 30 seats for the state, 05 all India seats and two Departmental seats. The College is offering 4 years degree programme leading to Bachelor in Fisheries Science (B.F.Sc.) as per Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi syllabi and curriculum. College of Fisheries is a constituent college of newly established Chhattisgarh Kamdhenu Vishwavidyalaya, Durg. Teaching is being strengthened by the appointment of eight Assistant Professors, There are Six full-fledged laboratories, one library and computer lab. Extra-curricular activities e.g Games, cultural activities, National Service Scheme takes care of the overall development of the students.

  1. B. Tech. (Dairy Science and Food Technology) 4-year programme : The programme leading to the award of the B. Tech. (Dairy Science and Food Technology) degree is designed to equip graduates with the knowledge and skills essential to a dairy professional.
  2. M. Tech. : The postgraduate programme leading to the award of M. Tech. degree in Dairy Science and Food Technology, Dairy Engineering, and Dairy Microbiology is of two years duration
  3. PhD : Doctoral degree programme of three years duration is offered in Dairy Science and Food Technology
